Megaman Podcast

10sec. intro with music and Voiceover[Megaman 2 opening]
Amanda
Hello welcome to the Megaman podcast. Okay, before we start let me start out saying this we are not gonna talk prior to the megaman x, exe, or legends series we’re only about the “classic” Megaman series. Besides that, I hope you enjoy the podcast.

For anybody who doesn’t know about megaman, megaman is a widely known game that include stopping the Evil Dr. Wily and his ever-growing army of robots from taking over Earth by using special abilities against them. The classic series was developed by Capcom since 1987 and have been one of the video game industry’s most recognizable icons ever since.
Hetep
Megaman is a pretty important part of gaming history. Pretty big part of my own history as well. i've been popping in and out of the megaman fandom for years. the simple game series has spawned a pretty large fanbase who have made fanart, remixes and many other works to keep the series afloat. megaman’s popularity has even led to an official comic series!
Amanda
I’ve only started to get in the megaman series and I’ve yet to play the classic series, but so far it’s pretty good .  So I didn’t know there was cartoons for this series until I watched Rubyspears. Oh god… Ruby Spears…. I have exactly no words how to describe it. Like ALL of the robot masters are buff for no reason… no reason
Hetep
Of course in the classic games everyone is nice and normal looking. Megaman began, and spent most of its classic life on the nintendo entertainment system. Megaman 1 was about a little robot boy named rock having to become “Mega Man” when his father, Dr.Light’s other robots are taken over by the evil Dr.Wily and are reprogrammed to take over the world. the plot of wily trying to take over the world with robots is rinsed and repeated throughout the classic series, though in megaman 2 he starts to build his own robots. his own adorable robots. The mega man 2 robot masters are all blessings.
Amanda
Oh god she's going through robo hell. Okay, so anyway megaman two has pretty cool robots. My personal favorite would have to be metalman because he’s metalman.

Hetep
and thats all well and good, but the best robot master is Heatman. very small zippo lighter. blessing.

Amanda

Powered up was a remake of the first megaman game, it gave everyone a voice although some were very annoying. Very. Anyway, so I was watching gameplays yesterday and I wondered like how in megaman powered up that elec man sounds like James from Pokemon and protoman sounds like a legit grown up?

Hetep
And they’re the only voices that sound nice! its always jarring to hear proto sound so adult when he’s about the same height as mega, who was built to be, like, ten. eleman sounds nice though, he’s the cutest of the masters in that game.
Amanda
HE SOUNDS WEIRD ONCE YOU REALIZED HE IS SMALL AND TINY.

Hetep
Very small and deep protobaby. my son. we never do get a concrete age for him, do we? other than “Mega’s older brother” and even thats shakey. he was the “prototype” and all
Amanda
Still, there is no reason for him have a thirty year old voice. None.

Hetep
He can have whatever voice he wants to.
Amanda
No he can not it’s the law.

Hetep
You’re just no fun.
Amanda
Anyway Megaman in the New Smash bros. For anyone who don’t know Super Smash bros is a competitive fighting game where you can play nintendo characters such as Mario, link and Pac-man.

Hetep
its about time, maybe the rep’ll give us a megaman 11! maybe. if capcom loves us enough.

Amanda
It would be nice to have new classic game to continue the classic series. With that,I’m afraid we have to go this is Amanda with Hetep and we hope you enjoyed this podcast.
[ megaman death sound effect]

This project was making a podcast with a partner about anything.I liked this podcast just because we get to talk about Megaman but although we messed up on the formula.

Dan Eldon Essay

Journalists live day to day, risking their lives to cover stories. In 1992, an estimate of 1121 people were killed on the line of duty. One such was Dan Eldon. Like other reporters before him, he wanted to report what was happening in the world. He was a photojournalist working on covering in Somalia. But like others before him, died while covering a story.
Des Wright and Carlos Mavroleon discuss the jobs of journalists. Mavroleon states that he feels like a vulture, photographing of people suffering but there is a need of telling the story to the world and try to make a difference. Amy Eldon concludes the documentary by stating, "I believe more than ever that what we do matters." ( Dying to Tell the Story) She believes that the profession of Journalism is important.  Martin Bell, a distinguished BBC correspondent, states "They’re watching the explosions, I’m counting the explosions, and it’s made no difference at all." ( Dying to Tell the Story) He believes that reporters such feel deattach to situations because by being attach, it  will not make a difference at all to the world . Another journalist Peter Magubane, states that, “ If you don’t forgive, you don’t portray your profession, getting involved emotionally, you are not able to do your job.” ( Dying to Tell the Story) He believes that emotions will affect how a journalist does their job and by getting involved with the conflict, the journalist is not able to do their job.
But unlike Bell CNN correspondent Christiane Amanpour, feels that it is sometimes appropriate to feel detach. She deals with the horrors she’s face by "putting that energy into telling the story."( Dying to Tell the Story) British photographer Don McCullin, feels both physically and emotionally wounded by the wars he covered. He ignores  the concept of detachment, saying,  "There’s no way you can hide behind the camera because … when you’re looking through the camera you feel even closer to the person you’re photographing…." ( Dying to Tell the Story)  McCullen believes that journalists can feel the the terror and obstacles that people in war conflicts.
Cameraman since 1982, Shafi Mohammad had wanted to go to Africa to help the innocent victims trapped in the war. He believed that the world needed to see the Somali people suffering. Shafi along with Amy, had gone back to Mogadishu to show her where her brother died and to tell her the whole story. A convoy of journalists went to see and report of a recent bombing of nearby bombing, with the Reuters car in the lead. Upon arriving near the airport, Shafi and Dan left the vehicle and went to investigate, until a mob of angry people began to stone them. Dan Eldon and three other journalists were stone to death. Shafi was the only survivor. Prior to those deaths, Shafi is haunted of that day by hearing Dan saying “ Let’s get out of here”( Dying to Tell the Story)
Dying to Tell the Story is filled with film clips and quotes of Dan at work in Africa and throughout the documentary, Dan’s love for his profession and people of somalia was obviously shown through his work . For Amy, she begins to have a better understanding of the duties and why journalists have to go through it. Amy have also now have a sense of closure and peace over the death of her brother.

I didn't particularly like this project. The only reason is because there were many others before who died to tell the story and I never knew why this guy in particular was so special. Sure, he took a dangerous job of taking photos during conflict but many have done the exact things he did.

I really like this one since it give a chance to take photos. Although, I didn't really like explaining it that much.

Pogus Caesar

This project we had to pick a photographer and analyze some of their photos. I really was interested in Pogus' work especially his work during the apartheid. It inspires me to take photos.

“The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspaper” Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)
This quote means that newspapers would place many lies and bias would make the reader believe that what the world around them. In ways I would agree. I would agree to this because throughout history and even today, there have been many newspapers that were bias.
Such for example, Jean-Paul Marat was a radical reporter during the French Revolution. He told the people that counter revolutionists would get rid of the progress they made from freeing themselves from monarchy rule and advises be beheaded. For example, in a pamphlet on July 1790 he advises counter revolutionists, "Five or six hundred heads cut off would have assured your repose, freedom, and happiness." Jean-Paul Marat (1743-1793). With that many lives were lost and the French people became afraid. He continued until his assassination.
Yellow journalism is a type of journalism that used crude exaggeration. This term was based on a time in the early 20th century where two of America’s top newspapers, The Pulitzer and the New York journal, was competing on sales. For example, both Pulitzer and Hearst exaggerated people to help Cuba to fight against Spain. They focused more on the war, rather than the harsh treatment of the Spaniards to the Cubans.  Another example, was when the Maine, a US naval ship sank on the Havana harbor. Both Pulitzer and Hearst exaggerated that it was the Spanish’s fault, although in truth it wasn’t. Thus causing the Spanish-American War.
It was difficult for me because I didn't know the right example at the time.  I also tried to explain it but couldn't.

Sazae-san

Sazae-san

By Amanda Dala

In the Hasegawa local newspaper, a comic strip will hold the longest running series. According to The Guinness World Record, Sazae-san holds the record of being “the longest ongoing series” with 7,071 episodes. It had also won the 8th Bungeishunjū Manga Award in 1962 (“An award given out to gag, yonkoma, and one panel strip manga.” Wikipedia). It was turn into an animated series in 1969 and as of 2013 is still an ongoing series.
The main character is a mother named Sazae-san. She lives in a house with her husband, her kids and her parents. Her husband is name Masou who is a salaryman who moved into the family after marriage. They have three year old son name Tarao who is also called Tara-san. Her father is Namihei Isano who is the patriarch of the Isano family.
The series tends to follow traditional view and is the ultimate family program. The plot points and simplistic art style from a western point of view are considered to be “boring”, but most Japanese viewers considered this anime to be really good. According to Myanimelist.net, “As a result, the show continues to grab the top ratings on TV. It is also one of the few animes that is considered by parents as “acceptable.”

There have also been many live adaptations of the series too. In 1955, a radio station aired a serial drama based on the comic series. At the same time as the audio drama, there was a short- lived live- action series that is currently aired on TBS. In November 1965, the TV channel TBS created a series that uses the comic strips as an example until 1967. In 1979, NHK created a series that focuses the creation of Sazae-san and Machiko Hasegawa in her younger days and in 2010, Fuji television debuted a live action comedy call Sazae-san 2 and Sazae-san 3. The shows follows the same elements as the anime series, including theme music and ending with, classic janken match (Japanese rock- paper- scissors)”.

Sazae-san is not like any typical anime. Like other anime; it usually have violence, swearing and magical girls. Sazae-san is an anime that you can watch together with family. It takes back to traditional Japanese society and brings a calming atmosphere whenever you watch the show. It is recommended for all ages, and it is a no wonder why many people would love it.

Another article for the magazine project. It was interesting knowing about it and how it still occurs today.
